<zard> Time to make the 0.2 github release!
<zard> Github release created
* coolcoder613 waves to zard
<coolcoder613> Have you done any work on building a wheel?
<zard> Hmm, I think I had looked into that once...
<zard> It seems like that is something that could be done
<zard> The only time I looked into wheels seems to be when I was thinking of linking against abi3, so that Haiku-PyAPI is Python version agnostic
<zard> Otherwise, it seems possible
<zard> Wheel filename format: {dist}-{version}(-{build})?-{python}-{abi}-{platform}.whl
<zard> That looks specific enough
<zard> *the compiler busily compiles an hpkg
<zard> When that succeeds, I just need to make a pull request to haikuporter
<zard> bye

<coolcoder613> Hi Begasus
<Begasus> g'morning peeps
<Begasus> Hi coolcoder613 :)
<Nephele> hi
<Begasus> Hi nephele
<Begasus> think kallisti5 saw me mentioning icu66 here yesterday ;)
<Begasus> fwiw, WebPositive not crashing here nephele :)
<Nephele> if it was crashing everywhere I'd expect more complaints/tickets
<Begasus> update is in the works to new icu, so let's see how that works out
<Begasus> for LO there should be only 2 boost versions involved now too nephele
<Nephele> That's already better :)
<Nephele> thanks
<Begasus> libcmis errors when building current version, new version will require a rebuild of LO
<Begasus> that's the only one still pulling in 1.69.0
<Nephele> log?
<Begasus> just launched a rebuild for LO :)
itaipu has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<Nephele> oh, you mean the LO rebuild will fix the build of libcmis?
<Begasus> no that would use the latest release for libcmis
<Begasus> cc1plus: all warnings being treated as errors
<Begasus> ah!
<Begasus> didn't spot that yesterday ;)
<Begasus> cool: grabbing libcmis-0.5.2-7-x86_64.hpkg and moving it to /Opslag/haikuports/packages/libcmis-0.5.2-7-x86_64.hpkg
<Begasus> so that's the last one for LO and the old boost version :)
<Nephele> niiiice!
<Begasus> not looking forward to do a rebuild for LO :P
<Nephele> I encountered that boost thingy when i was showing an elderly relative beta4 after he pulled out a linux drive
<Begasus> np, still quite a few around using the older one, it had to be done at some time
<Begasus> k, LO still exporting fine to epub and pdf

<kallisti5[m]> erysdren: the unicode library for Haiku. A lot of stuff is built against it, as well as the os itself
<kallisti5[m]> one of those lovely chicken and egg things. They don't offer a stable API / ABI, so we have to upgrade all the things when we update it along with source code changes
<erysdren> ahh.
<coolcoder613> Is anyone going to update the wine port? with wine 9.0, you can run 32-bit windows programs on 64-bit only operating systems, like Haiku 64-bit
<erysdren> that's one of the big targets for B5, i gather?
<erysdren> coolcoder613: the current wine support on Haiku is very bad. it still uses ~/.wine instead of a Haiku-ey directory for its configuration

<Nephele> erysdren: that doesn't sound hard to fix.
<erysdren> its probably not hard to fix, but i'm surprised it wasn't fixed before it appeared on haikuports
HaikuUser has joined #haiku
<Nephele> haikuports had a prebuild version, not a proper recipe
<Nephele> so dunno, i'm not touching that to fix it
<erysdren> oh, i see

<dpirate> I've been using Linux since 1997 and I've downloaded, compiled and tried wine two or three times. It was such a mess, strewing hundreds of kinds of files everywhere in non-standard paths, requiring 32 bit libraries, and other weird stuff and all that to run win32 programs hapharzadly that I've since placed all hope on ReactOS.
<erysdren> ah yeah
<erysdren> i've never tried to build Wine but i didn't expect that it would be easy
hightower2 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<dpirate> It's been a while since I built wine, so it may have gotten better since. Not sure if it still uses old rotten autotools. But the whole idea is flawed from the start.

<dpirate> Win32 programs won't ever run perfectly as on Windows with some UNIX win32 emulation layer.
<dpirate> It will always be an eternal secial casing and bug fixing fest.
<dpirate> *special casing

<erysdren> eugh, i hate autotools
<dpirate> Anyone with a good experience packaging software for Linux hates autotools
<dpirate> I'm even surprised some people hate CMake (perhaps they have good reasons) because it seems to me like heaven compared to dealing with autotools.
<dpirate> Declarative > shell script mess
<erysdren> CMake is certainly much better than autotools
<dpirate> We agree
<erysdren> i use CMake for my own projects only if i expect someone else to have to use it
<erysdren> if it's just for me, or a very limited audience, i use make+pkg-config
<dpirate> I used CMake for my own projects as well, and even wanted to convert some old stuff to CMake: https://git.metalpunks.info/compface/
<dpirate> make+pkg-config is definitely easier to handle
<erysdren> speaking of which, i need to go about bringing a game sourceport over to CMake from autotools
<erysdren> have been meaning to do it for a few weeks now...
<dpirate> I'm guessing it's a little big challenging
<dpirate> *bit
<dpirate> Having to go through all the autotools mess, and iteratively converting it

<phschafft> Is there any offical file for the logo I can use when referencing Haiku?

<erysdren> hmm, i think there's a page with a press kit

<phschafft> I may be blind, but I don't see 'download the offical SVG here' or similar.
<AlienSoldier> Just updated Haiku, is it possible that FFMpeg6 messed Falcon, i can't start it anymore

<PulkoMandy> phschafft: Itws in he git repository in data/artwork. It's a Wonderbrush file, not sure if there's a valid svg export already there

<PulkoMandy> Seems there's an svg there (for both the black and the white logo)
<phschafft> thank you. :)
<phschafft> I just don't want to end up with tiny PNGs that are all noise ;)
<phschafft> If I talk public about this, I want it to look good. :)

<Nephele> dpirate, kind of funny since reactos uses severall wine components ;)
<AlienSoldier> here is the the report https://0x0.st/Hk53.report
<AlienSoldier> or could it be that ICU thing?
<AlienSoldier> uninstalling falkon and installing again don't work either
<AlienSoldier> i will try a hard reboot just in case

<dpirate> Nephele: it uses *SOME* wine DLLs
<dpirate> But the ReactOS project itself made the point that wine cannot be ever adequate to run win32 apps

<Nephele> If you want "perfect" running win32 apps, probably not. But since wine can run win32 applications better than windows 10 can in many cases I don't see how it matters

<dpirate> Lately some guy hired me to reinstall Windows 10 on his late 32 bit PC
<AlienSoldier> nope, nothing work, falkon is broken
<Nephele> ... that's exactly my point
<dpirate> He wanted to run some old graphics software app
<dpirate> I convinced him to move to a an 8th gen intel Lenovo laptop
<erysdren> does windows even still offer 32-bit versions?
<dpirate> I had to run through hoops to get that software to run on 64bit Windows 10
<erysdren> i thought they stopped doing that a decade ago
<dpirate> There is a 32 bit version of Windows 10
<erysdren> oh wow
<dpirate> With NTVDM
<dpirate> He had that
<dpirate> And his app ran
<dpirate> on it
<dpirate> From the 1990's
<dpirate> I got him to buy an X280 for 100 euros
<erysdren> anyone here use chat-o-matic?
<erysdren> it looks like the only IM client for Haiku that uses libpurple
