<pimpjuice>
looks like your doing some cool stuff there
<pimpjuice>
i am setting up my haiku fresh, going to try to replace windows and use it as my daily machine.
<Begasus>
not that hard, it was already present, just updated it to the latest version (and bumped boost version for it)

nice pimpjuice, running it on 2 laptops here, only boot into Windows in the morning for some catching up, aside from that they only run Haiku
<Begasus>
bugger :)
<Begasus>
nephele, 64bit build is done too ... updating here
<Nephele>
so now only one boost version? :D
<Begasus>
yep
<Begasus>
not counting other packages that still require the old one though, but should be good for LO
<Begasus>
hate this ... Name is in use (would be nice to know "which" package :/
<AlienSoldier>
kallisti5 i can experience it with browsers or vision. Especially when i drag app around from workspace to workspace. Seem related to the bug where if you drag media player from one workspace to another (when it play) it will stay on the initial workspace.
<AlienSoldier>
very very old haiku bug

(AGMS) Idea for another 'bot - when it sees a URL in IRC or BeShare, download it to an archive disk and share it on BeShare. Surely someone already does that somewhere.

did this get added to Haiku's iso?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Hmm, nope, the current IRC logger for #haiku just saves the text.

(AGMS) Found https://github.com/tstarck/urler but that only saves URLs to a database, doesn't actually download and preserve them.

<kallisti5[m]>
erysdren: the unicode library for Haiku. A lot of stuff is built against it, as well as the os itself
<kallisti5[m]>
one of those lovely chicken and egg things. They don't offer a stable API / ABI, so we have to upgrade all the things when we update it along with source code changes
<erysdren>
ahh.
<coolcoder613>
Is anyone going to update the wine port? with wine 9.0, you can run 32-bit windows programs on 64-bit only operating systems, like Haiku 64-bit
<erysdren>
that's one of the big targets for B5, i gather?
<erysdren>
coolcoder613: the current wine support on Haiku is very bad. it still uses ~/.wine instead of a Haiku-ey directory for its configuration
<erysdren>
i'm guessing that nobody uses it much

erysdren: that doesn't sound hard to fix.

its probably not hard to fix, but i'm surprised it wasn't fixed before it appeared on haikuports

I've been using Linux since 1997 and I've downloaded, compiled and tried wine two or three times. It was such a mess, strewing hundreds of kinds of files everywhere in non-standard paths, requiring 32 bit libraries, and other weird stuff and all that to run win32 programs hapharzadly that I've since placed all hope on ReactOS.
<erysdren>
ah yeah
<erysdren>
i've never tried to build Wine but i didn't expect that it would be easy
hightower2 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<dpirate>
It's been a while since I built wine, so it may have gotten better since. Not sure if it still uses old rotten autotools. But the whole idea is flawed from the start.

Win32 programs won't ever run perfectly as on Windows with some UNIX win32 emulation layer.

eugh, i hate autotools
<dpirate>
Anyone with a good experience packaging software for Linux hates autotools
<dpirate>
I'm even surprised some people hate CMake (perhaps they have good reasons) because it seems to me like heaven compared to dealing with autotools.
<dpirate>
Declarative > shell script mess
<erysdren>
CMake is certainly much better than autotools
<dpirate>
We agree
<erysdren>
i use CMake for my own projects only if i expect someone else to have to use it
<erysdren>
if it's just for me, or a very limited audience, i use make+pkg-config
<AlienSoldier>
uninstalling falkon and installing again don't work either
<AlienSoldier>
i will try a hard reboot just in case
AlienSoldier has quit [Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred!]

Nephele: it uses *SOME* wine DLLs
<dpirate>
But the ReactOS project itself made the point that wine cannot be ever adequate to run win32 apps
hightower4 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]

<Nephele>
If you want "perfect" running win32 apps, probably not. But since wine can run win32 applications better than windows 10 can in many cases I don't see how it matters

<AlienSoldier>
nope, nothing work, falkon is broken
<Nephele>
... that's exactly my point
<dpirate>
He wanted to run some old graphics software app
<dpirate>
I convinced him to move to a an 8th gen intel Lenovo laptop
<erysdren>
does windows even still offer 32-bit versions?
<dpirate>
I had to run through hoops to get that software to run on 64bit Windows 10
<erysdren>
i thought they stopped doing that a decade ago
<dpirate>
There is a 32 bit version of Windows 10
<erysdren>
oh wow
<dpirate>
With NTVDM
<dpirate>
He had that
<dpirate>
And his app ran
<dpirate>
on it
<dpirate>
From the 1990's
<dpirate>
I got him to buy an X280 for 100 euros
