<OscarL> alright, let's give that idualwifi7260 fix a test drive.
<zard> Hello OscarL :)
* zard is working on Haiku-PyAPI
<OscarL> Hola zard :-)
<OscarL> object ownership still giving problems?
HaikuUser has joined #haiku
<zard> Still working on it :)
<OscarL> Wish I knew enough to be of help :-/
<OscarL> can offer moral support, thou!. Go zard, go!
<zard> lol
<zard> Probably once I figure out object ownership there will be some more repetative working of getting the code to use it
<zard> Sometimes, I think there has to be a way that has a little less repetativeness...
<zard> I've one project so far that might help. Maybe someday I can investigate it...
<OscarL> Wish I understood how Bethon worked :-/ that seemed to tap right into Python's innards for its magic.
<zard> Hmm, the one with those cryptic files? Yeah, I don't understand those either :P
<zard> Horay! One error down
* zard took a look at Vision for the first time
<zard> Those :) look a bit squished. Is that why you use :-)?
<OscarL> I'm old, smileys are 3 chars or bust :-P
<zard> :-D
<OscarL> good, good.
<OscarL> all these xhci "cancel queued transfers: halted endpoint, rest!" sure do give me the creeps.
<OscarL> s/rest!/reset!/
<zard> Hmm, some programmers sure are good at making confusing error messages :P
wicknix has joined #haiku
<OscarL> might not even be an error, but scares the crap out of innocent /me :-D
<OscarL> shoot!, I still can't connect using idualwifi7260 :-(
<OscarL> oh well, was worth a try.

<zard> gtg, bye!
<OscarL> later!
zard has quit [Quit: leaving]
<OscarL> "KERN: , <NULL>" <<< that looked like an informative syslog message!
<waddlesplash> OscarL: just retry a bunch of times, for idualwifi
<waddlesplash> doesn't always work on first try
<OscarL> Alright... will keep trying then.
<waddlesplash> and, that XHCI message shouldn't happen very often, but the real error is probably preceding it
<OscarL> It worked exactly ONCE for me, and then never again, ha.
<OscarL> re xhci errors, the first I see is: "usb error xhci 0: ConfigureEndpoint() failed invalid max_burst_payload.
<OscarL> then: "unable to configure endpoint: Invalid argument".
<OscarL> Should probably just get a clean syslog and upload it.
<OscarL> Ok, those "cancel queue" messages, they start AFTER I unmounted and ejected (via /bin/eject) a usb 2.0 pendrive.
<OscarL> "openbsd wlan_control 9235, 78 (not supported)", same for "16 (not supported)". Other than that... just refuses to connect. Will try to switch card to RTL8188EE, if I can.
<OscarL> not to sound like and ungrateful bastard: BTW waddlesplash, thanks for all your Haiku work! :-)
<waddlesplash> ah then theyre expected then after eject I think
<waddlesplash> and of course you are welcome :)

<Tekk_> Hey, is there any way to tell haiku to save which boot volume it wants to boot from? I just did an install and had to manually copy the bootloader into the EFI partition and it worked fine, but I have to scan and select the partition on every boot
<Tekk_> Is that an efivar somewhere?
<augiedoggie> did you rename the bootloader to bootx64.efi?
<Tekk_> I did
<augiedoggie> and it's inside of a efi/boot directory on the partition?
<Tekk_> I have it in efi/haiku. efi/boot is taken by OpenBSD
<Tekk_> Does it care about that particular directory?
<augiedoggie> most systems will auto-boot the efi/boot one by default, usually you would use a loader like refind to choose between oses
<Tekk_> Right. I have no problem getting into the haiku bootloader though
<Tekk_> I adjusted the efi boot vars to add the entry for it
<Tekk_> the bootloader just isn't auto-choosing the Haiku partition. It makes me select the boot volume on every boot
<augiedoggie> yeah, i don't use the boot selection in the efi on mine, i let refind handle it
<augiedoggie> hm
<augiedoggie> is this beta4 or a nightly build?
<Tekk_> This is on nightly
<Tekk_> Also, really impressed with the nightly. Everything on my laptop is just working out of the box :)
<augiedoggie> is haiku on the same disk as the efi partition?
<Tekk_> Mhm.
<augiedoggie> :/
<augiedoggie> dunno
<Tekk_> It's certainly not the end of the world. The only thing that *might* be a hint...
<Tekk_> In the bootloader when it scans it detects the Haiku partition twice, it looks like?
<augiedoggie> the only thing i could think is that the guid of the haiku partition is wrong, but i doubt that's it
* coolcoder613_ is looking for mmu_man
x10z has quit [Quit: My Mac has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<Tekk_> If it were then it couldn't find the partition at all I think
<Tekk_> and certainly not mount it
<augiedoggie> i seem to recall a scenario where it did
<Tekk_> Does haiku have a tool for viewing/managing the EFI entries and vars?
<augiedoggie> no
<Tekk_> Hm
<Tekk_> Might have to poke more next time i'm in Linux
<OscarL> coolcoder613_: he's on France, so... take his timezone into account.
<augiedoggie> most of the open tickets i see about the efi loader and boot volumes suggest it's a uuid problem, but i agree it's weird that it would still boot when you choose it
<Tekk_> My guess is that it's storing the uuid *somewhere*
<Tekk_> but that's wrong
<Tekk_> So it's not seeing what it's looking for but it finds it on the scan
<OscarL> about that "In the bootloader when it scans it detects the Haiku partition twice"... do you still have the USB install media plugged?
<OscarL> that could cause you to see two "Haiku" partitions.
<OscarL> (seen that on my machines at least, and why It would be cool if the boot loader marked them differently :-D)
<augiedoggie> rename your disk :P
janoz has joined #haiku
<OscarL> heh. I do. but... on first install... can't trip you :-)
<augiedoggie> maybe the partition on the anyboot images should be HaikuLive or something
janus has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
janoz is now known as janus
* OscarL renames his installs so hard, than then he needs to patch Terminal so hyperlinking works again (https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/18820)
<OscarL> augiedoggie: yup! using HaikuLive for that sounds like an easy and good solution.
Calisto has joined #haiku
<OscarL> proper one would be mentioning the underlying "/dev/disk/..." next to partition's names if their labels are exact matches, but... a simple rename would cover the most common case.

<Calisto> Heyyy OscarL :D

<OscarL> 'lo Calisto. Indeed, tried to congratulate you twice already earlier on :-D
<Calisto> On mail PulkoMandy told me that it would be good if I got a decent hold on the query system as well... Was planning to give the darkwyrm doc a read through today
<Calisto> Ohhhh okay I must have not seen it xD
<Calisto> Was in uni
<Calisto> But thank uu :)
<OscarL> one more won't hurt, so...: Congrats on landing your first TWO patches! :-)
<Calisto> thank you so much :) You helped a lottt with it
<Calisto> So as of now he recommended me to stick with the layoutAPI and read through other applications' code which use the layoutAPI but also look into the query system
<Calisto> Probably need to take a refresher on my regex xD
<OscarL> not sure what type of work you intend to do related to queries...
<OscarL> but if it just the UI aspects of them... no need for much more than "*" on test searches, I guess :-)
<augiedoggie> query expressions are different from regular expressions
<Calisto> Oh okay I'll read through that
<augiedoggie> queries are unchanged since beos, the bebook is still the best reference for them
<Calisto> Mainly my work is on the query tracker find window
<Calisto> According to the GSoC idea
<Calisto> But still thought of going through the basics of it all so that I can understand a bit better
<Calisto> And then stick back to the LayoutAPI
<Calisto> Oh okay thank u so much OscarL and augiedoggie
<Calisto> Ill go through those as well

<Calisto> Tho im kind of confused how to approach the problem but I'll simultaneously start slowly reading through the source code of the tracker query window itself
<Calisto> Maybe that will help?
<Calisto> Or should I focus on some other apps as well?... I went through the darkwyrm docs on queries, BNode, and BNodeInfo
<Calisto> So for now I'll just start making the proposal with what I have learnt and everything
<phschafft> hope you're all good.

<Begasus> Hi BrunoSpr
<Begasus> augiedoggie, any way I could try to triger the error on pcre2?
<nosycat> Hi there!

<Begasus> hi nosycat
<augiedoggie> probably but i don't know what would do it
<BrunoSpr> hi Begasus, hi nosycat, hi augiedoggie
<Begasus> So far launching/create database/add entry doesn't produce an error herre :/
<augiedoggie> it crashes immediately for me, no main window or anything
<Begasus> closing/opening again ... no issues (32bit R1B4)
<Begasus> even launching it from Terminal to see if something pops up

<Begasus> if disabling the 10.4* packages help you and 3DEyes then that should be done, for me I don't have an issue atm
<augiedoggie> it *feels* like this is probably related to the koder and libreoffice problem but i haven't investigated
<Begasus> k, LO crashes here also, not sure how they are related though
<augiedoggie> only because it's a really strange error to appear just because of a new pcre2 version
<augiedoggie> and our new gcc seems a bit wonky, especially with things like stack unwinding
<Begasus> k, let me install the 10.39 one ...
BrunoSpr has quit [Quit: Vision[]: Ich wurde gewaschen!]
<Begasus> LO crashes with that one too
BrunoSpr has joined #haiku
<augiedoggie> i'm feeling a bit crappy today, if i get motivated i'll rebuild the older one and see if it has a problem
<augiedoggie> it might not like being compiled by the newer gcc regardless of which pcre2 version
<Begasus> np
<Begasus> QMPlay2 still ok with both versions (10.39 rebuild earlier here), as is KeePassXC
<Begasus> can only check :)

* OscarL wishes he could have a single haikuports clone for both 32 and 64 bits (couldn't haikuporter use separate "repository" and "work-*" dirs for each platform?)
<OscarL> or that it is actually possible, and I'm just using it wrong?
<OscarL> just centralizing the "download" dirs would be of much help.

<augiedoggie> i suppose you could create a download symlink in every port dir back to some central location :P
<OscarL> augiedoggie: I may actually attempt that, yes :-)
<OscarL> had to nuke haikuports/repository :-/ updating dependencies is so slow :-) (wonder if storing even plain .DependencyInfo files in sqlite woudln't make things faster)
<OscarL> anything that reduces the friction of switching between 32 and 64 .recipe work environments would make testing ALL things on 32 bits less of a chore :-/
<augiedoggie> hm
<augiedoggie> there is an interesting option in the haikuporter source
<OscarL> Actually... patching haikuporter to create/use download dir symlinks... not a bad idea (for my local haikuporter at least)
<augiedoggie> looks like DOWNLOAD_IN_PORT_DIRECTORY sets it

<OscarL> Here.. trying to test previous on 64 bits (after I fixed the recipe for 32 bits).
<augiedoggie> doesn't seem like that option has any effect when i try it
<Begasus> You could check the libpcre2 issue reported by 3DEyes on 32bit ;)
<OscarL> augiedoggie: perhaps it is used in "buildmaster" mode? (I'm assuming that's a thing :-D)
<augiedoggie> could be
<OscarL> I see an "'/input-source-packages/'" that looks "suspicious" :-P

<OscarL> alright, now "previous" .recipe is good on both 32 and 64 bits.
<Begasus> I know there is this riscv file that get's overwritten (or the likes) with a line that fetches packages from localhost during build
<Begasus> in */haiku/build/jam/repositories/HaikuPorts
<Begasus> but that's at building Haiku ;)

<Begasus> nice, crash on closing down NeoChat gone to? ;)
<OscarL> DriveSetup should refuse to format partitions with the wrong type, no?
<Tekk_> Apparently not!
<Tekk_> It also refuses to fix the partition type, but that might just be a nightly bug
<OscarL> or does it alert()s, but lets you do it anyway?
<Tekk_> Maybe related to why it didn't fix the partition type when it formatted.
<Tekk_> Nope, just did it totally blind
<Begasus> closing down for today, cu peeps!
Begasus has quit [Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred!]
<Tekk_> I didn't even notice the partition was flagged as Linux Data since i'd created it as unformatted in the partitioning tool
<OscarL> later Begasus!
<OscarL> Tekk_: I was about to ask you if you "reused" a partition you already had, or used DriveSetup to create it before formatting it...
<Tekk_> I went and created blanked out partitions since I needed to be in Linux to resize an LVm anyway c:
<Tekk_> Definitely something for me to be aware of when I put 9front on here too
<OscarL> my usual go to "solution", re-create Haiku Partition with DriveSetup. Others say that you can change the type from GParted or Disks.
<Tekk_> Neither of those will
<Tekk_> But gdisk will set the partition type to Haiku for you
<Tekk_> The others refuse to flag as partition types they don't personally understand
<OscarL> I see. thus my "nuke it and start over" stance :-P
<augiedoggie> yeah, i suspected a uuid problem
<Tekk_> I mean, I'd already generated ssh keys, gotten nextcloud setup, etc.
<Tekk_> That was like, a whole hour of work setting things back up I saved by 3 hours of debugging!
<augiedoggie> `hp --test libpcre2_x86` crashes constantly with 10.43
