<Begasus>
g'morning peeps
<OscarL>
Hola Begasus.
<OscarL>
first time actually *trying* to use an UEFI shell... not ammused. can't even interrrupt commends with CTRL+C :-/
<Begasus>
Hola OscarL
<Begasus>
not messing with that one here
<OscarL>
at least CTRL+AL+DEL worked :-D
<OscarL>
installed rEFInd (to get rid of that ugly grub2)... tryied using efibootmgr from linux, but boot order kept getting reset after boot.
<OscarL>
Can't do much from the UEFI shell itself (pretty limited on this machine).
<OscarL>
And the BIOS settings... are both quite limited... and really confusing (at least for me).
<OscarL>
"Boot Order", "UEFI Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities", "UEFI Application Boot Priorities", plus some "Boot Override" options.
<OscarL>
Koolio! Got it working, finally :-) the "BBS Priorities" was the one that did it :-)
toydragon has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<OscarL>
The leaf looks a bit strange on rEFInd's icon for Haiku but... better than before! :-D
<Begasus>
good for you, I just keep using the boot menu to select EFI boot for Haiku here ;)
<OscarL>
Turned out not being THAT difficult... just unfamiliar stuff, I guess.
<OscarL>
My BIOS didn't have a proper/working "select EFI loader", so I was forced to mess first chainload Haiku from Grub, installing rEFInd... and learning how to use efibootmgr to add a Haiku entry that my BIOS finally recognizes.
<OscarL>
now I wonder how difficult would be to port efivars/efibootmgr from FreeBSD.
<Begasus>
While Haiku is the main boot OS on this one, I still "need" to boot into Windows once in a while, so not messing with this setup atm that's working fine :)
<OscarL>
alright, just so you know... rEFInd seems pretty good at just autodetecting what's already there. Boots my Haiku/Linux/Windows without a beep, and without me doing much.
<Begasus>
looking at rEFInd still gives me the creeps ;)
<OscarL>
:-)
<OscarL>
if doing a manual install... seems as easy as adding Haiku's bootloader to the ESP partition.
<Begasus>
If this was an older setup I probably wouldn't mind digging into it, but not on a year old laptop :P
<Begasus>
And knowing Windows "repair" it would whipe out all my Haiku stuff :P
<OscarL>
Understandable... I was a bit worried with this "new" netbook as well.

How is it going.
<OscarL>
Hey there andreasdr[m]. Just trying to setup a nightly image for testing some HaikuPorts stuff. How about you?
<Begasus>
HI andreasdr[m], chilling as usual here :)

some glitches with Tracker's type-ahead and symlinks to files in other folders. The symlink gets "multiplied" if you open it after using type-ahead filtering ("copies" vanish after exiting the filter with ESC).
<OscarL>
Well... I can't find a relevant Trac ticket for that so... off to open a new one, before the nephele's ghost starts chasing me :-)

Modern applications, even those designed for specific embedded targets, must be adaptable enough to run seamlessly across various platforms without sacrificing efficiency or reliability."
<OscarL>
and what about the top part of the output? :-D (need to "stich" those together)
<OscarL>
re: rizing... user "ret2lib" seems to keep thinking that prefix as "/packages/rizin-0.6.2-1/.self" is a problem, when it is not.
<Begasus>
yeah, mentioned that, but even what they suggested doesn't work :P
<OscarL>
what he misses is that /packages/rizin-0.6.2-1/.self is actually a valid path in Haiku.
<Begasus>
let's see if he can setup a vm for Haiku :)
<Begasus>
I don't know what else I can do there, paths are declared correctly
<OscarL>
re: colors, notice how in the second screenie (for the top part), the background are all the same for the the different groups. That looks different on Lin/Win
<OscarL>
Also why I first need to match the terminal colors themese used between all three, to make comparisons easier :-)
<Begasus>
I don't know what I should be seeing there :P
<Begasus>
also notice, this is still R1B4, so maybe it looks different in nightly

I see (weird that it still works on Terminal thou).
<OscarL>
I wasn't sure enough if that was always the case or not ("Fixed font:" showing "font menu"). Noticed a few days ago on a machine with no other mono font than Noto Mono.
<cyrus__>
Begasus: Quick question: "Please check and fix the file permissions in this PR: 100644 → 100755." I'm not sure I follow. I can't find either of those PRs and I'm not seeing any file permission errors. But I'm admittedly still pretty n00b to this, so I'm sure I'm overlooking something here.
<OscarL>
(just in case people get puzzled by "worksheet"... just type "ls -1l" and hit CMD+ENTER, you'll see why it can be handy)
<OscarL>
korli is asking for those permissions changes to be reverted, I believe.
<Begasus>
well, haven't really looked at it yet ;)
<OscarL>
ie, remove the execute bit.
<cyrus__>
oh wow
<cyrus__>
I don't recall ever explicitly changing that
<cyrus__>
Not sure how that happened
<OscarL>
seen it happen when moving files around, say reading ntfs files from linux, and then committing.

I originally tried to push from my Haiku box, but ran into problems with authentication from there and decided to fight with later. So instead, I moved it to my Linux box and pushed from there.
<Begasus>

<cyrus__>
Begasus: whoops. Done.
<Begasus>
cyrus__, switch sed/pkg_config :)
<Begasus>
well cmd:sed to the end of the list
<cyrus__>
Sweet! Yeah I tried it in my 32bit VM (which I surprisingly pulled off before the VM committed suicide) and on my 64bit box
<Begasus>
heh
<Begasus>
"all !x86_gcc2 ?arm ?ppc" I guess you could loose arm/ppc here too, no build infra for that anyway

<cyrus__>
Now I just gotta fixed out how to fix my "push" issue from GitQlient
<Begasus>
thanks!
<Begasus>
issue?
<Begasus>
the gui poppup?
<Begasus>
or the lack of it? (got that also with Kommit)
<cyrus__>
Yeah it tries to invoke ssh_askpass when you commit and push, but throws an error because "command not found". So I installed the ssh_askpass package, but it's still failing to invoke it. I assume it wants to use it for git auth.
<Begasus>
Qt Creator 13 RC released .. :D
<Begasus>
if I run "eval $(ssh-agent)/ssh-add" in Terminal and launch Kommit from Terminal it keeps my credentials, otherwise it doesn't
<cyrus__>
hmmmm....

wonder if x512 did a wiki explaining the order in which to port functions of the OS to port it to new architectures.
<cyrus__>
I got spoiled rotten with the tooling I use for work. If they need to auth with github, they just open a github sign-in page in browser, I login, and then it keeps my credentials

<nosycat>
Oh, it's made with Free Pascal?
<nosycat>
Been reading about it these days.
<Begasus>
yeah, but need to patch/build fpc from source, it's a tricky one to package and work anyway
<nosycat>
So it seems.
<nosycat>
Even their own binary archive is... weird.
<Begasus>
so I've patched it while building it with fpcupdeluxe
<nosycat>

<Begasus>
no I need to find out how to run make install there ;) (can't find an option in Qt Creator)

Today I had a "Haiku FTW" moment, getting Linux to boot ironically ... I was transferring the boot SD card for our home server to a new one because the old one was failing, but testdisk only created an image of the partition, not the whole disk. After recreating that on the new card, it wouldn't boot, even after marking the partition active. Turns out the boot code in the MBR was still missing. So I started up my Haiku VM, attached the SD card, ran
<jmairboeck>
writembr, et voilà, it worked!
<jmairboeck>
Turns out, Haiku is useful even for getting Linux to boot, or any system for that matter :)
