The motherboard of my main PC seems to have finally died :-/. Tried replacing caps... (even bought some spare ones just in case)... no go :-(
<OscarL>
this craptop barely good for some lighter stuff, so I'll probably be less active until I find a replacement mobo, or some other semi-decent PC I can use.
<augiedoggie>
that sucks :/
<OscarL>
Indeed. 12 years of abuse in a hot climate... can't be good for such a cheap mobo that I bought second hand :-D. Re-capped it once before a few years ago. This time... Unless I get some kind of miracle... doubt it will revive. :-(

will do when I'm native on 64bit again :)
<jmairboeck>
I won't test 32 bit myself, my 32 bit VM isn't big enough for it
<jmairboeck>
so I guess we have to trust the buildmaster there
<jmairboeck>
or someone else wants to volunteer
<zard>
Too bad that WebKit build will take at least another hour, or I might have enough memory to run another VM
<Begasus>
Texlive probably takes a "bit" over a day to fully build zard :)
<zard>
Yikes!
BrunoSpr has joined #haiku
<Begasus>
I think the first time I tried it it took about 2 days to build here, should be a "bit" faster on this install :)
<jmairboeck>
and I'll have to build it at least twice to get the subpackage infos correct
<jmairboeck>
but the second time doesn't take so long of course

<Begasus>
jmairboeck, they are not declared as requirements for texlive_core?
<Begasus>
they are :)
<jmairboeck>
yes, they are :)
<Begasus>
ps jmairboeck, maybe keep the one from last year around for 32bit?
<Begasus>
you deleted that in the PR
<jmairboeck>
I can do that if you want, but I don't see much of problem updating it for both. Unless some problems with secondaryArch comes up, but I don't think so. The upgrade of texlive_core was pretty smooth (the pathset needed no changes), and the other package is "any" arch, so that shouldn't be a problem either.
<Begasus>
ok :) but I'm not testing that either :D
<jmairboeck>
let's see if a problem arises when it is finished
<BrunoSpr>
Hello all
<jmairboeck>
but don't expect anything too soon
<Begasus>
Hi BrunoSpr
<BrunoSpr>
The logo would be better in Gray, but I just did a fast mockup

bugger jmairboeck ... Error: problem 1: package gd_devel-2.3.3-4 requires devel:libtiff>=6.0.2, but none of the providers can be installed
<jmairboeck>
I think I had that too. We have 2 different versions of libtiff I think
v_harkonnen has joined #haiku
<Begasus>
yeah
<jmairboeck>
Begasus: I'm not sure if leaving out 32 bit would even work, because texlive is "any" which means it gets built for 32 bit anyway, and I'm not sure if mixing different versions of texlive and texlive_core would work
<Begasus>
it won't be a problem on the buildmaster though
<Begasus>
right there jmairboeck, brain isn't functional the last days :)

Hi, everyone! I'm Diego Roux, CS & EE student; I'm interested in working on 'Hardware acceleration for Haiku's QEMU port' for the GSoC '24. I'll share my proposal (and timeline) later on, as well as a better introduction for myself, I'll appreciate all feedback. I know I'm quite late for this, apologies offered. Has anyone shown interest for this project idea? And, if possible, I'm looking for suggestions

droux: Hello, I confirm there is already someone planning to work on porting nvmm, but we can probably accept other related ideas. Maybe working on the "opposite" side of virtualization, writing/improving drivers for virtio devices, "guest addition" things such as shared clipboards, etc
<PulkoMandy>
So let us know if you would be interested in something like that
DKnoto has joined #haiku

<droux>
PulkoMandy, thanks for the confirmation, sure, I'm interested. Also, thought about 'btrfs filesystem', saw you listed as possible mentor; if there's a preference or a higher need for that, let me know.
<PulkoMandy>
Not really, I think. Well I don't use btrfs myself, but I occasionally use Haiku in virtual machines
<PulkoMandy>
Anyway, the "possible mentors" list is not necessarily accurate or complete, and if you get selected we'll find a mentor for you in any case (and I won't mentor more than one student, so it is likely to be someone else)
<droux>
Oh, ok, thanks.
<bitigchi[m]>
PulkoMandy, isn't the pkgman resize behaviour standard CLI behaviour when resized?
<bitigchi[m]>
When downsized the buffer simply expires
<PulkoMandy>
To make a mess over dozen of lines in the terminal? I don't think that's standard behavior
<PulkoMandy>
And even if it is, it's not such a great idea anyways
<droux>
PulkoMandy, I'll look into the VirtIO device drivers, if that looks good.
<bitigchi[m]>
Sounds like subjective to me
<PulkoMandy>
Yes, you may want to contact korli for that one, I think he worked on it quite a bit
<bitigchi[m]>
As long as the resize continues, it will simply populate the scrollback buffer with the updated progress bar lines
<droux>
Thanks, will do :)
<bitigchi[m]>
If it was a TUI application, yes, but I don't know a way to fix it
xet7 has joined #haiku
<bitigchi[m]>
I don't think it is possible to fix this when displaying content in a line-based buffer
<bitigchi[m]>
It is the same behaviour in wget and apt
<bitigchi[m]>
Or any line based program for that matter
