<Begasus> g'morning peeps
<OscarL> Hey Begasus.
<Begasus> Hola OscarL
<Begasus> still up ? :)
* OscarL pokes nielx[m] regarding that SSL issue for haiku-inc.org, just in case.
<OscarL> Begasus: yeah :-(
<Begasus> oh, not good?
<augiedoggie> I got bored and resurrected one of my old Deskbar mods https://ibb.co/PZfFw9m :P
<augiedoggie> still needs a couple tweaks to the position/size
<OscarL> Begasus: Not "bad" bad... but... since yesterday... my attention span and lack of focus... make me look like a squirrel on meth, or something.
<Begasus> clean Desktop augiedoggie :)
<augiedoggie> i usually don't keep much on the desktop, it's totally empty on my Linux/KDE desktop
<Begasus> litle steps OscarL, take your time (and breaks)
<OscarL> :-)
<Begasus> could put up some stuff from my Desktop in LaunchBox, but I don't really like the UI :)
<OscarL> speaking of breakes... coffee break! :-P
<Begasus> OscarL, always! :D
<Begasus> on my third cup already :)
<Begasus> OK, so the only *thing* I really need to boot into Win11 now is when I need to use the eID card reader, haven't tried, but I suspect it won't work :)
<OscarL> Is that eID a Belgium-only thing?
<Begasus> I don't know how others do it, but here it is
<OscarL> more like a EU thing it seems (judging from some images I see).
<Begasus> mostly used to make a secure login to goverment sites (or the likes)
<Begasus> need it to login to check on the progress for my pension ;)
<OscarL> here we have to upload a photograph of our ID cards :-D
<Begasus> Falkon can't use FF add-ons
<OscarL> (for some stuff, at least)
<Begasus> an image?
<Begasus> that's not quite secure I think :)
<OscarL> yeah, pretty crappy system
<OscarL> Back in the days, I had a "OpenBeOS" deskbar :-)... should still have at least a screenshot somewhere. I like that "Haiku" one of yours, more than the cut-off leaf, to be honest :-D

<mbrumbelow> Zzzz….
<OscarL> Sure thing, no hurries! Thanks!
<OscarL> Meanwhile... I'm trying to figure out how to conditionally compile resorces with rez, if at all possible.
diver has joined #haiku
<augiedoggie> why are you using rez?
<OscarL> Looking at Pe menues.
<OscarL> augiedoggie: context: https://github.com/HaikuArchives/Pe/issues/71

<augiedoggie> need to fine tune the new one
<OscarL> unless we drop BeIDE (my option), need to find out a way to change resources from BeIDE<->Palading on menues, and such.
x10z has joined #haiku
<augiedoggie> hm, i'd have to look at the code more deeply to understand that paladin issue
<augiedoggie> too late at night for that though :P
<OscarL> no worries, just puting some context on the rez question :-D

<micken> it seems like it is truly a online IMAP client .. so fetching manually is wrong
<zard> Ext4 didn't work well with Haiku. Ext2 worked better but not well enough. Let's hope against hope that ext3 works for me :P
<micken> bye for now

<zard> Git sparse-checkouts ftw! Ext3 is on the same level as ext2, but with the sparse checkout, I might just be able to make it work

<zard> Now I'm working on debugging 2 kdl's that occur when trying to make certain symlinks. But first, I'm switching to the nightlies to see if it has been fixed already

<thelounge85> Hello everybody ! I am a beginner with Haiku
<thelounge85> I would like to know how I can use pkgman win http / https proxy ?
<thelounge85> or haikudepot
<zard> I don't know, but a quick Google search seems to suggest that that is not possible directly, but might be possible using ProxyChains4
<PulkoMandy> Why not use bfs? It's certainly the most well tested one :)
<thelounge85> ok thanks, setting http_proxy=ip:port works with webpositive and curl, I will look at proxychains4
<zard> I'm afraid that I might need to resize in the future. But, I might just have to

<waddlesplash> it does for many things but not others

<zard> Found the filesystem documentation (https://www.haiku-os.org/docs/develop/file_systems/overview.html). Should make things easier

<phschafft> you're really deep down when you think about how to optimise something like: a ? *a : NULL
<zard> Well, not having any luck. May as well use BFS
<phschafft> what are you trying?
v_harkonnen has joined #haiku
<zard> To run the ext2 file_system addon that I compiled instead of the one that comes with the kernel by default
<zard> Surprisingly hard given the lack of documentation. And I want to work on haikuwebkit, instead of spending all the time required to get it to work
<phschafft> hm
<phschafft> why do you need it?
<zard> I was hoping to have an expandable partition. Also, Qemu can keep unused space free for the host to use
<phschafft> and that doesn't work with bfs?
<zard> BFS can't be resized, nor does Qemu know what is free space. Other than that, everything should work
<phschafft> I would just tought that with TRIM qemu doesn't need to know anything.
<zard> hmm
<phschafft> not saying that it works that way, just that that would be the way I would expect it to work.
diver1 has joined #haiku
<zard> Looks like TRIM would require the guest device to send TRIM commands. Fstrim seems to be the Haiku tool to do it, but is "experimental and may result in data loss"
gouchi has joined #haiku
<phschafft> generally the filesystem driver should do that, so no external tooling required. however Haiku surely isn't in it's final state and such tools may be helpful even in the long run.
<phschafft> what you can do is to zero blocks and dig holes on the host. that however requires one write on the blocks (wearing down a SSD if you got an SSD).
diver has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<zard> From what I've seen online, Linux also has fstrim which it runs once a week. I suspect TRIM information is used SSDs to help with wear leveling
<waddlesplash> zard: fstrim on BFS seems to be stable at this point
<waddlesplash> I haven't heard of data loss since the last round of fixes
<zard> Cool! Then hopefully that will work
<waddlesplash> zard: easiest way to replace ext2 will be to just rebuild the whole haiku.hpkg
<zard> Heh, it is as I feared :P
<zard> Let's see if I can write a bug report, at least
gouchi has quit [Quit: Quitte]
<zard> Except I don't have a very good way of reproducing it, other than running `git clone https://github.com/haikuwebkit`
<zard> Nor would I be able to test whether any fixes fix it, since I will delete that partition
<zard> And I suspect that the information that I have to give is insufficient to diagnose the issue
* zard begins to wonder if a bug report would actually be useful
<waddlesplash> if you have a KDL screenshot then yes.
<waddlesplash> plus the steps taken to cause it
<zard> Ok, I have both of those

tombhadAC has joined #haiku
<zard> Success! Just run `ln -s SafeBrowsing.xcassets/WKSafeBrowsingWarningTitle.colorset/Contents.json SystemTracePoints2.plist` on an ext3 partition and you should get a KDL :)
<zard> Some variations of the file and folder names used above also cause the crash, but not all of them
