So far no luck getting serial output of my main PC - not sure the BIOS cares about the PCIe serial card and as such Haiku's bootloader isn't pumping anything out. System still just reboots the moment it tries to start up with zero output other than the icons appearing for a split second

<geist>
PCI based serial cards tend to use nonstandard IO ports and whatnot (auto assigned by the PCI bus)
<geist>
so it may be that the bios/bootloader/etc is expecting 'standard' IO ports for it
<mattlacey>
ah ok - wonder if I can find a way to change those through a config program or something
<mattlacey>
doubt it
<jessicah>
are you booting with UEFI?
<jessicah>
and what chipset?
<mattlacey>
B450 (AMD)
<mattlacey>
and yeah, UEFI
<jessicah>
serial card chipset
<mattlacey>
I can get to the boot options, but no matter what I choose it won't boot - just reboots instantly - no onscreen debug output
<mattlacey>
ah nice, maybe I should check out rEFInd - bit wary of screwing up my windows boot, I've been out of the loop on GPT etc. in general and still don't feel as comfortable as I did back int he MBR days :)
<mattlacey>
MBR & GPT
<jessicah>
I use refind on my macbook air fine
<jessicah>
with windows + haiku + ubuntu
<mattlacey>
I'll have a play around tonight after work
<mattlacey>
I'm not anticipating any output given the onscreen stuff doesn't even appear
<jessicah>
quite possibly
<mattlacey>
I used to be able to boot nightlies but not sure when it actually broke
<jessicah>
I remember there was a big refactor of EFI some time ago
<mattlacey>
yeah I feel like I saw an email or source update on the site or something - I never get to pay enough attention
<jessicah>
I would go back to something like hrev51998, and see if that boots

jessicah were those two older versions of the loader? my net keeps crapping out and I didn't notice that IRC didn't reconnect!
<jessicah>
yes, very old, will be around 2 years
<mattlacey>
cool
<jessicah>
ugh, now I can't boot into my haiku install, bootloader doesn't see it... weird
<mattlacey>
that happened to me recently - prior to all this "not being able to boot" stuff - I had an installed version but the USB bootloader wouldn't see it
<jessicah>
ohh, it was the package state file... gah
_Dario_ has joined #haiku
<mattlacey>
what is the package state file? I've seen something in the bootloader log right at the end about that
<jessicah>
it lists all the activated packages
<mattlacey>
is that something the bootloader even looks at? I thought that would have been way later on in boot
<jessicah>
it must do
<jessicah>
package management does exist in the boot loader

g'morning peeps
<jessicah>
you can load previous states in the bootloader, for example
<jessicah>
hey begasus
<jessicah>
I guess if the activated packages file lists packages which aren't in the packages directory, it excludes that install

hi jessicah, long time no speek ;)
<Begasus_32>
k, R1B3 installed :)
<_Dario_>
hopefully, I will test the B3 images on the weekend
<_Dario_>
still on nightly here
<jessicah>
hi Begasus_32, indeed a very long time!
<jessicah>
thought I'd see if my airbook hardware was better supported, but seems no change :-/
<Begasus_32>
bugger
<Begasus_32>
so far it's looking alright here, only wished the laptop was more stable :)
<Begasus_32>
on another thing, texlive has seen new light jessicah, we're on par now :)

if I use "export FPCDIR=$PATH" fpcmake works, so the install dir I'm using atm doesn't seem right for the fpc_source package :)

Hello, I have an interesting error with the EFI loader. I get "Could not locate any supported boot devices!" but if I have an usb drive with a Fedora installer on it, haiku boots.I'm 100% sure that the usb dosnt have any haiku files.
<yukitoki>
how can dump the bootloader logs to a file?
<Diver>
jessicah: should probably know
<jessicah>
maybe a couple years ago
<jessicah>
I haven't touched uefi since

I dont know if the docs already say this somewhere or if this is a bug but the script build_haiku_image fails if there is a space in the path where haiku source is.
