(Zillo) Good evenning. I need your help once more. I manage to boot Haiku OS on my PC, but it after it loads all the icons in the boot proccess, it turns the screen off and it doesn't come back.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) I have a Radeon RX570 8GB video card.
<B2IA>
(MrEntropy32) Try holding down the space bar while Haiku boots. This should bring you to a menu. Under one of the options will be a spot where you can select "Use fail safe video drive" or somethng similar. Select that, then continue to boot and see if that works.
<B2IA>
(MrEntropy32) *drive = driver
<B2IA>
(Zillo) OK. Let me do that, one min.
<B2IA>
(MrEntropy32) Oh, you have to hold the spacebar down before the icons show up.
<B2IA>
(MrEntropy32) I think left Shift button will do the same.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) With space ar pressed the boot loader is on screen
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Yes, it is working
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Nice
<B2IA>
(Zillo) there are 16 core tracks on Pulse.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) WOW
<mrentropy64>
A 64 core Threadripper would probably be an experience.

(Zillo) So, I installed it on a partition in my SSD, but it is not showing in my BIOS. I have to use the Flash Drive to boot and enter the haiku bootloader and there boot mypartition.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) I also don't have ethernet connection and this machine is connected by ethernet port
<mrentropy64>
Does your SSD happen to have a small partition on it, formatted in exFAT or FAT32?

huh wow
<HaikuUser>
haiku is neeeeat
<B2IA>
(Zillo) I have a not formated (microsoft Reserved) 15.98 Mib, a Haiku_HD and a Ext2.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Do I have to create a FAT32 to install bootloader on it?
<HaikuUser>
I wonder if anyone has ever dailied Be
<mrentropy64>
If Haiku was on it's own drive, I would say yes. However, I honestly don't know how it works in your situation.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) After I created and formated the Be File System, I installed Haiku on it. I also went to the Tools menu in the Installer and wrote the boot sector in the Haiku.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) When I select Tools>Set up boot menu, it says my drive has imcompatible format.
<jessicah>
are you booting with efi or csm?
<B2IA>
(Zillo) EFI
<jessicah>
if efi, you need to copy the haiku_loader.efi to your efi system partition, which is usually fat formatted
<jessicah>
look for the partition that contains a bootx64.efi file
<jessicah>
it'll be like /efi/boot/bootx64.efi
<jessicah>
oh man, peewee herman... that's going back a looong time
<B2IA>
(Zillo) I left a 3gb free partition, what parttion type should I use? there many to choose from.
<jessicah>
efi system partition
<B2IA>
(Zillo) ok
<jessicah>
one should generally already exist, quite unusual that you don't have one
<B2IA>
(Zillo) What do I call it?
<jessicah>
and format it with fat file system
<jessicah>
it doesn't matter, ESP is fine
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Doesnt matter?
<B2IA>
(Zillo) ok
<jessicah>
but the fact that you don't have one might brick booting another OS if you have one installed
<B2IA>
(Zillo) and now I format it as FAT32?
<jessicah>
yes
<jessicah>
then mkdir -p efi/boot on that partition, then copy haiku_loader.efi to efi/boot/bootx64.efi
<B2IA>
(Zillo) in this HD I have Manjaro Linux in another partition
<jessicah>
oh, then copy it without renaming
<jessicah>
else it'll find your new bootx64.efi, and default to that, and then you might not be able to easily boot into linux
<jessicah>
I'd make efi/haiku/haiku_loader.efi on your esp, then your uefi bootloader in theory should find it

(Zillo) in Tools, do I write the boot sector the Haiku partition?
<B2IA>
(Zillo) in Tools>Set up boot menu, still says Incompaible format.

it's not needed with uefi
<B2IA>

(Zillo) On my PC I have two hard drives, on drive 1 it has Windows 10 and the boot loader (GRUB) for a Manjaro Linux 21.1.0 that is in a partition on Drive 2.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) I created a partition for Haiku on Drive 2 and after that I installed Haiku on it.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) I installed Haiku 64-bit, I tried to install the 32-bit version but the BIOS did not "see" the boot partition on the Flash Drive. Maybe I should enable CSM on the BIOS for that to work.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Thinking forward, BeOS is dead, so should be the 32-bit version. Well, I installed the 64-bit to "match" almost all OSs today that are 64-bit.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) From what I learned I can configure the Manjaro GRUB to launch Haiku on Drive 2.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) On Haiku internet page, I saw that I can use GRUB and there are instruction to configure GRUB v1 and GRUB v2.

Thanks, I can work a bit on dark styling... though hardcoding is a bit meh. Though I think the "nice" solution is simply using css forced colors when we have support for that (if we have support moreso... webkit doesn't yet)

<Coldfirex_>
I was reviewing our coding guide and noticed it said to express sentiments like "this is a hack". Any issue with me cleaning up references to stuff like this (hack -> workaround) as well as curse words?
<Coldfirex_>
*it said no to express
<Coldfirex_>
not
<nephele[x]>
What do you mean specifically? usually we don't want hacks in our code at all :), (and cleaning cursewords seems to be a sysphus task with the meaning changing, somehow IDE slave and IDE master is becoming a curse word or perceived as such now...)
<nephele[x]>
It only seems to mention that because it is nondescriptive... only saying you think it is a hack, but not what you think is wrong with it actually
<PulkoMandy>
Coldfirex_, that's not what the coding guidelines says
<Coldfirex_>
well, we have a mix of both legitamate uses of 'hack'. Some where it describes the actual issues, and others that just say 'this is a hack'
<PulkoMandy>
it says that writing just "this is a hack" and not explaining why it is is a problem, because the next person reading the code may not understand what the problem is and why the solution is not right
<Coldfirex_>
I understand. We have both
<PulkoMandy>
I don't think replacing "hack" with "workaround" will help with that, it's more about documenting things and giving more context
<Coldfirex_>
10-4
<Coldfirex_>
What about the cursing?
<PulkoMandy>
I don't think the coding style says anything about it. I tend to avoid it especially when it's insulting someone (a common case would be people writing drivers being unhappy with the job of the hardware designers)
<Coldfirex_>
It doesnt mention is specifically. I just got curious and started searching for them

isn't libperl the internal bit for libpurple?
<Begasus>
not sure, the build is ok without lib:libperl (when not running in strickt mode)
<Begasus>
does it really rely on libperl or on the cmd:perl?
DKnoto has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Begasus>
There is no "lib:libperl$secondaryArchitecture" so we have to remove the latter, but I'm guessing that on 32bit the mix between primary and secondary arch gives the policy error (that doesn't happen on 64bit)
