PulkoMandy: Our code still has several references to OpenBEOS (mostly license related) like "This software is part of the OpenBeOS distribution and is covered". Are these safe to update to Haiku?
<PulkoMandy>
yes, you can replace this with the standard "Distributed under the terms of the MIT license" header
<Coldfirex>
or "Copyright OpenBeOS Project
<Coldfirex>

On this auspicious day, I should probably write to Opera and remind them that I bought Opera for BeOS and believe I am entitled to an upgrade to a Haiku version.

<The_Ringmaster>
vivaldi on haiku would be great!
<Niklas[m]>
We already have a great browser with Otter.But the more modern QtWebEngine instead of the dead QtWebKit would be cool.
<The_Ringmaster>
It's unfortunate it isn't fully open/free software. Vivaldi that is. Otter is ok, still prefer using web+
<Niklas[m]>
Has anyone ever tried to build this on Haiku btw?
<nephele[x]>
why QtWebEngine? it's blink based...
<nephele[x]>
presto is dead, opera uses blink
<Niklas[m]>
But it's still maintained...
<nephele[x]>
so is pale moon...
<Niklas[m]>
No,I meant QtWebEngine is still maintained
<nephele[x]>
Yeah, so? It's still blink... not really interesting to me tbh
<Niklas[m]>
While QtWebKit is basically dead and is based on a way too outdated WebKit version,unfortunately.
<nephele[x]>
with webkit we atleast have something to directly compare it to, too bad qtwebkit stalled so much, its kinda kinda still on low burn, but who knows...
<Niklas[m]>
And Opera Presto is even more outdated and not suitable for browsing the modern web.Would be fun to try it out on Haiku anyways
<nephele[x]>
the modern web should just be called "the google web" tbh
<Niklas[m]>
Not here :P
<The_Ringmaster>
Niklas[m], No vivaldi is a recreation of opera 12.x created by the same team as the original opera
<nephele[x]>
well, the entire PWA shit that is beeing pushed seems to be mostly googles fault, and they are also the only ones really pushing it, with random apis for everything
<Niklas[m]>
I have banned their IP ranges using iptables + filter their IP ranges using Cloud Firewall addon (double-blocking makes me feel safer lol) + I block their known domains using uBlock Origin.So it's totally not a Google Web for me :P
<nephele[x]>
I am talking about the profileration of standards, and where web engines are going... if you use a browser needing uBlock origin i reckon you don't have them blocked fully though through it :P iptables might be enough though
<Niklas[m]>
And you're right that PWA sucks but I feel like it's a trend in general,not pushed by any single company
<Niklas[m]>
...and it's still better than f*cking Electron which is PWA + a own Chromium binary for every single PWA
<nephele[x]>
Well, Haiku will likely gain an api to use webkit in normal apps aswell, with webkit2 :)
<nephele[x]>
for example MediaPlayer, email aswell as a ePub reader need that

I would give it a shot since Mozilla seems to be going off the rails, but isn't Vivaldi Chromium-based? I've never been a fan of those.
<Niklas[m]>
I liked when they still had Presto.It was amazingly fast back then,especially on low-powered Android devices.And with the change to Chromium,it became incredibly slow :/
<Niklas[m]>
Yes,Vivaldi is also Chromium :/
<Rynn>
Bleh. We're basically almost back in the dark ages of IE at this point, with 90% of the browser market running one engine.
<Niklas[m]>
Yeah,but at least IE wasn't spyware

no issue pulling down via git command in Haiku directly. This is in Windows
<jmairboeck>
The haiku repository needs a case-sensitive file system. Windows doesn't have that (by default)
