<SamuraiCrow> Now I have Rust working on Haiku. (It was on the depot! Who knew?)
<SamuraiCrow> I'm hoping to get Haiku supported on Wasmer now. Are there any suggestions for how to implement it in HaikuPorter? Shall we just treat it as a new platform?
<waddlesplash> I was under the impression that it's a bit far from being a platform that can be targeted in that way
<nephele[x]> wasmer has their own package manager... why not just port wasmer first and then try that?
<SamuraiCrow> Oh yeah!
<SamuraiCrow> For command-line utilities it can just build as WASI.
roiredX has quit [Quit: Vision[0.10.3]: travelling through KOCMOC!]
<SamuraiCrow> Wasmer has its own C++ derivative of Clang. Maybe that will work as a target.
<mrentropy64> I was reading a thing about running the Amiga operating system in WebAssembly and JavaScript.
<SamuraiCrow> It's either an emulator or a rewrite.
<SamuraiCrow> FriendOS is a rewrite.
<nephele[x]> jslinux also exists
<mrentropy64> I think he was going for a rewrite
<SamuraiCrow> Yeah, there's a number of those going around.
<SamuraiCrow> AROS is open-source so why not?
<mrentropy64> The Amibien.js site just broke my Web+

<B2IA> (MrEntropy64) Do you have Legacy boot enabled in the UEFI (BIOS)?
<B2IA> (Zillo) I set up as Other OS.
<B2IA> (Zillo) I think it is the legacy option.
<B2IA> (Zillo) In the BIOS there is no Legacy option. Only the option to opt for Windows 10 or Other OS. I use it in Other OS for Linux and Mac OS Big Sur.
freakazoid333 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Coldfirex_> did you copy the iso to usb or use an app to write it?
<mrentropy64> That may control if Secure Boot is turned on and off, then. If it doesn't support Legacy booting, I'm not sure how it's going to work.
<B2IA> (Zillo) I used Etcher
<B2IA> (Zillo) Secure boot is off
<nephele[x]> windows 10 or other os sounds like boot order setting, not one for what type of boot
<nephele[x]> you might have something called "compatibility mode" or "csm mode" in efi setup, but regardless the thumb drive should be able to boot from efi just fine
freakazoid333 has joined #haiku
<nephele[x]> on some efis you need to find where it has a "hard disk" boot order and move the usb drive to the top there so it is prefered over internal OS, other options could be to have to enable usb boot too
<B2IA> (Zillo) CSM is off because to boot Mac OS Big Sur is must be off
<mrentropy64> Does Haiku support 32-bit EFI? If I remember right, the ISO doesn't contain an EFI partition.
<nephele[x]> CSM is the "legacy" way to boot OS
<nephele[x]> The installer definetely has an EFI partition, I am not sure about 32bit efi
<B2IA> (Zillo) May be for the 32-bit Haiku I will have to turn on CSM
<nephele[x]> Wait, you ment a 32bit iso? No idea, but mixed mode efi is really icky
<nephele[x]> you might need to use CSM indeed
<B2IA> (Zillo) I thought to install the 32bit because of old BeOS compability. May be I should go 64bit?

<B2IA> (Zillo) I need another help with FuseSMB, I installed it in my Haiku VM and configured the network preference and turned on SMB Cliente. I have a SMB Network icon on the desktop but where or how can I try and address to the other Machine?
<nephele[x]> smb network should "scan" for shares
<B2IA> (Zillo) When I open the SMB Network it is empty
<nephele[x]> It never worked for me so I can't comment on how it should work normally, i always use smbclient on the cli, which is a terrible ftp like way to download stuff over smb
<B2IA> (Zillo) that green bar is almost empty, very little green at the botton
<mrentropy64> I believe that FuseSMB only works with early versions of CIFS. It can work with newer versions, but you need to make your own cache file and fill it out with some stuff.
<mrentropy64> But FuseSMB works fine with my old Netgear NAS, but not very well with my Windows 10 NAS (even with CIFS 1 and 2 enabled).
<B2IA> (Zillo) Althogh it is a fast and light OS Haiku or BeOS, seams just nostalgia. If it keeped developing it would be the best OS today.
<B2IA> (Zillo) I will try to install again, but just for hobby.
<nephele[x]> mrentropy64: CIFS is SmB version 1.0, and 1.0 only
freakazoid333 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<nephele[x]> all newer versions are called SMB, it's only linux that calls it CIFS incorrectly in places
<mrentropy64> Whatevs. Just replace the term where needed.
<mrentropy64> In either case, I don't think it works with recent versions of SMB. Without some tweaking.
<nephele[x]> Yes, I was just mentioning it because you explicitly brought up CIFS, but likely did not mean that :)
<mrentropy64> I don't know why you would think that, considering I keep calling GoBe Productive BeProductive. Complete mystery to me...
<mrentropy64> (I mean, yeah, you're entirely correct)
<nephele[x]> Zillo: considering it is not BeOS, but a complete OS on it's own, and is working as a daily drier for some people I'd say it isn't that much nostalgia
<nephele[x]> for me it isn't anyhow, I've never used BeOS :)
<B2IA> (Zillo) I installed Calligra, tested, trashed it.
<mrentropy64> The Windows 10 feature to turn on says SMB 1.0/CIFS
<nephele[x]> (and I'm only 2 years older than haiku)
<nephele[x]> mrentropy: yeah, they mention that explicitly because that version has known vulnerabilities
<B2IA> (Zillo) when you turn SMB 1.0/CIFS in Windows 10 is screens.
<B2IA> (Zillo) it screens.

<nephele[x]> avahi implements mDNS, we certainly want mDNS, if anything for "airprint" btu we don't need avahi
<nephele[x]> But even if you have mDNS you need to know with which schema or servicename stuff announces itself... and if nfs servers even do that, if nobody implements support in practice then we don't need to add client support :)
<B2IA> (Zillo) I found nice to drag a yellow window handle and pressing Command key to put them together. Was it on BeOS too?
<mrentropy64> The Archlinux Wiki has a small section on how to use Avahi with NFS, although it says to "automount them in Zeroconf-enabled browsers)"

<nephele[x]> lol, its already in userbootscrupt...
<nephele[x]> though open will also open documents and stuff, not only start apps
<mrentropy64> Can I create a link to lauch in my Home folder and rename it Auto? That would give me a warm fuzzy ST feeling.
<rennj> cobrakai, sweep the leg!
<B2IA> (Zillo) Thank you!
<PulkoMandy> regarding mDNS: the client from Apple is opensource. I have a copy on my desktop for probably a year or more now...
<PulkoMandy> not sure if we have multicast working well enough already, however
<PulkoMandy> (korli made some fixes but I didn't try it since)

<HaikuUser> Hey does anyone know if Mail-it is still available as an app for Haiku b3?

<mrentropy64> You can probably get Mail-It from somewhere. I think I may have used that, back in ye olde days. I don't think it's officially supported or updated for Haiku.

<Coldfirex_> Anybody have a wikipedia account already? Our page needs updating to include Beta 3.
<melo> I thought about creating a DarkMX network for Haiku files and chat. Anyone game?
<jt15s[m]> <Coldfirex_> "Anybody have a wikipedia account..." <- It's already been updated IIRC
<jt15s[m]> I don't think anyone here is allowed to edit, that's against Wikipedia's policies

<mrentropy64> The sub-Reddit r/haikuOS is a bit out of date, too.
<melo> @jt15s PeeWee's playhouse also had workplace policies. Sometimes Wikipedia feels that way. I don't even bother trying to edit anything there these days.
<jt15s[m]> melo: What's PeeWee's playhouse?
<mrentropy64> Has anyone checked if there's an entry on h2g2?
<melo> Wow, you must be really young. A YouTube search for PeeWee's Playhouse will help. It was a crazy TV show a generation ago.
<mrentropy64> There is no entry on h2g2 for Haiku, the operating system, but there is one for BeOS.
<mrentropy64> PeeWee's Playhouse also spawned three movies, at least one of which is a cult favorite.
<melo> PeeWee's Great Adventure was absolutely hillarious. It was so stupid, so horribly deadpan stupid at every turn, that I could not stop laughing. It was way better than Dumb and Dumber.
<melo> Have you ever heard the phrase, "So stupid you're happy?" It was like that.
<melo> That's what I think of the censors at Wikipedia.
<mrentropy64> Now I'm going to have to watch it again.
<mrentropy64> Anyway... nobody is questioning the whole 'h2g2' thing? That makes me a bit sad.

<Coldfirex_> jt15s: You are right, but I ran across a different Haiku entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Haiku_(operating_system)
<jt15s[m]> <mrentropy64> "There is no entry on h2g2 for..." <- Are you allowed to add entries?

<melo> What makes me sad is that I can't run haiku in production because I need FDE on install. If that were a standard feature I'd be running some public servers on Haiku.
<mrentropy64> jt15s[m] Looks like it. You need to register, though, and since I haven't actually used since sometime in the early 2000s I don't think my login is good, anymore.
<mrentropy64> I could re-register.
