oh, we can't format as exfat either? :-/

how would we format as exfat if we can't write to it?
<waddlesplash>
also, is btrfs still a format option? probably shouldn't be as we don't really support write well enough yet I think
<rennj>
fuse-exfat might be easier
<rennj>
fuse-exfat i got here, prior to linux kernel getting it
<jessicah>
yeah, Linux has special patent waiver via OIN

What do people here use for accessing Mastodon on Haiku? Web+ kinda works, but it is clunky and slow and some buttons etc do not show up... Otter doesn't work - and I can't see any dedicated apps in Depot...

<mrentropyvcs>
I keep downloading atari800, making a change to save the config file in the proper Haiku spot, compiling, etc. I would really like to figure out how to use haikuporter and make a package and have it available to everyone.
<mrentropyvcs>
So what is the best tutorial to follow to do something like that? Something a person with a brain the size of a pea could follow?
<Diver>
mrentropyvcs: do you know how to build packages already?
<mrentropyvcs>
Diver: I do not.
<Diver>
64 bit haiku?
<mrentropyvcs>
Consider me a blank slate. A man with a brain the size of a pea.
<mrentropyvcs>
Yes, 64-bit is my usual.
<Diver>
ok, so install haikuporter first with "pkgman i haikuporter"
<mrentropyvcs>
I've got haikuporter and haikuports already going. That part I was able to follow.
<Diver>
create an alias in ~/config/settings/profile
<Diver>
alias hp='haikuporter -S -j1 --no-source-packages --get-dependencies'
<Diver>
source it with ". ~/config/settings/profile"
<Diver>
get ports tree with "hp -g"
<Diver>
build a small native app with "hp netpulse"
<Diver>
at this point haikuporter should create dependencies for every recipe which will take a few minutes
<Diver>
it will do that only once
<Diver>
then it should build a package
<Diver>
there is a config file for haikuporter at /system/settings/haikuports.conf
<mrentropyvcs>
So far so good.
<Diver>
adjust the alias to fit your cpu cores "-j1" is one core
<Diver>
good luck, will be back in an hour
<mrentropyvcs>
okay. Thanks!

YES!!! texlive_texmf is building with generated subpackage infos. Let's see if the packageEntries part works as well (but that comes at the end, naturally). So, let's wait for 2 hours ...
<jmairboeck>
However, it needed some workaround for finding the file with the generated part (which is sourced from the recipe), because $portDir doesn't seem to be set as documented.

<jmairboeck>
it seems that $portDir is always empty (or unset). Using $portBaseDir instead works, at least for creating the dependency infos. But using that leads to a problem later when building it, because the path is not available in the chroot, obviously. My workaround is to check whether $workDir is set, which is one of two variables which is not set for parsing, according to https://github.com/haikuports/haikuporter/blob/
<jmairboeck>
sorry, the link was split in half ...
<jmairboeck>
I will create an issue for haikuporter after I am finished, so that I have something to refer to, to better explain the problem
<jmairboeck>
I assume $portDir is supposed to abstract that, i.e. be the same as $portBaseDir outside the chroot (when creating DependencyInfos) and empty inside. Is this correct?
