Hello
<jjido>
good morning

<MikeHaiku>
I was wondering if there exists another native music player for Haiku, rather than the built in Media Player that is bundled with Haiku.
<MikeHaiku>
Soundplay is not available for x64
<jjido>
So why not use the 32/64 bit image if you need the software?
<MikeHaiku>
I do use the x64 bit image of Haiku with EFI
<MikeHaiku>
I could use the 32 bit version of Haiku and be limited to 32 bit, but I wish to use x64 on my modern system
<Niklas[m]>
Is the source of Soundplay available?Then it should be quite easy to compile it on 64bit.
<MikeHaiku>
No, it is not and I don't think the owner of the software has been available for contact for over a decade / Do not wish to open source / Lost source code
<MikeHaiku>
But, I only know of these two native music players, I was wondering if there were any more that I could try
<MikeHaiku>
I know of qt ports like QMMP, and others, but I'm looking for native software
<jjido>
How about "DIDPlayer"?
<jjido>
SIDPlayer
<Niklas[m]>
Well,that's one of the reasons why proprietary software sucks.Sources and authors get lost and you can't continue to use it :/
<MikeHaiku>
Is that a commodore 64 music player for sid music? I can't find it in haikudepot. I'm looking for a FLAC player. Sorry I wasn't specific.
<MikeHaiku>
Niklas[m] Very true. I know several people have tried to contact the author over several years. Have yet to see a response though
<Niklas[m]>
Looks like there isn't much hope.Have you tried that APlayer recommended in the forum?
<jjido>
yeah don't know much about available software
<MikeHaiku>
No, I'm going to look for it now. Thank :)

<MikeHaiku>
I see it is not available in Haiku-depot. There was a list of other repositories for Haiku-depot was there not?
<MikeHaiku>
I can look for it myself :)
<Niklas[m]>
Yes but none of them is nearly as big as HaikuDepot.Your biggest chance to find it is probably the HaikuPorts source repository if it's not in HaikuDepot.
<MikeHaiku>
Thanks again, I will look in to the source repository
<nephele[x]>
why the spam for some obscure terminal emulator?
<x512[m]>
<countryboy> "ok, i apologize -> haiku..." <- Hybrid kernel is a basically marketing term. Technically Haiku kernel is modular as in most other modern OSes.

usually for terminal stuff you'll want to try and compile until it misses something and fix, and retry
<someNk>
port propper wall tested terminal instead of the C++ ugly terminal lib you have
countryboy has left #haiku [#haiku]
<mmu_man>
works fine for me
<mrentropy64>
What I should do is try and narrow down why I'm getting so many USB related divide by 0 errors.
<nephele[x]>
someNk: we already have a proper well tested terminal *shrug*

mrentropy64: usb errors with what?
<mrentropy64>
Coldfirex: Keyboard, gamepad... bunch of stuff. I think it's the switch box it's attached to that's causing it.
<Coldfirex>
is there an existing ticket by chance?
<Coldfirex>
sounds familiar
<mrentropy64>
Probably.
<Coldfirex>
couldnt find a bug report on it
<mrentropy64>
I've got photos of the dumps, so I'll write something up. I wanted to narrow down the suspects first.
<mrentropy64>
Also, if someone wanted to write a native Haiku word processor, I'd be totally for it.
<doru_[m]>
hello, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this, but if I have a laptop with broken screen, is there a way to make it show image on the external HDMI instead?
<nephele[x]>
This is the correct place, i think it should do this when you have HDMI connected at boot, but i am not sure
<nephele[x]>
mrentropy64: would be quite neat, something that is more user friendly than libreoffice with high contrast mode on win10 :)

True that.
<mrentropy64>
It's just a lot of additional things to pull in.
<doru_[m]>
turning on fail-safe graphics fixes it
<doru_[m]>
I mean, makes the image display on the HDMI screen
<doru_[m]>
now I need to make internet work
<doru_[m]>
with ethernet thing, atheros, it gets stuck on Configuring
<doru_[m]>
both my laptop and desktop. though their network cards are probably very similar, they use the alx driver on Linux
<nephele[x]>
you can try if FreeBSD can use it, if yes it is a haiku specific bug probably
