<nephele_xmpp>
also, when you have something like that and want help it's better to make Debugger generate debug report from the menu, and share that
<nephele_xmpp>
it has more info
<Anarchos>
nephele_xmpp ok i can post the report if you want
<nephele_xmpp>
what does level do?
<Anarchos>
nephele_xmpp i think it is the level of partition/image nesting
<nephele_xmpp>
ah, so not your code?
<Anarchos>
nephele_xmpp not it is the haiku/src/apps/bootmanager :)
<Anarchos>
nephele_xmpp the modif i made was before : i change the way the bootloader passes the bios drive id to kernel, so now in bootmanager, the _GetBiosDriveId (in the screenshot i posted) works and returns B_OK
<nephele_xmpp>
tools-> generate debug report when the threads are in "debugged" state
<Anarchos>
nephele_xmpp wait 2 min, i must scp the report before upload it
<nephele_xmpp>
your remote machine doesn't have curl?
<Anarchos>
nephele_xmpp the remote machine is behind a ubuntu gateway, and upload-it does'nt work (no clue, but as scp works, i can do it from my main machine)

nephele_xmpp cause i have to rebuild the @nightly-anyboot and dd the iso to usb key for each modification, to test it properly.....Kind of annoying process
<nephele_xmpp>
No, just start it with LD_PRELOAD=path/to/libroot_debug
<Anarchos>
is libroot_debug builds on @nightly-anyboot target ?
<nephele_xmpp>
should be available by default as a library, yeah

<Usr312>
hi
<Usr312>
is it posible to prevent haiku from installing boot manager, whatever it uses
<Usr312>
i alredy have grub, i would like to install haiku and boot back to my grub and there add entry for haiku
<Anarchos>
Usr312 you can build a version of the iso or raw image without bootmanager
<scanty>
grub can chainload haiku just fine'
<Anarchos>
Usr312 sorry i thought you wanted a version of haiku withtout the BootManager tool.
<Usr312>
yes
<Usr312>
i dont want haiku to install grub so later i have to restup grub
<scanty>
haiku will not install grub
<Anarchos>
Usr312 BootManager is a graphical UI for a tool installing the specific haiku 'bootman'
<scanty>
it has its own bootloader
<Usr312>
whatever it using, i dont want it to install boot loader
<scanty>
you dont' have to.
<Usr312>
is there an option to uncheck it during install proces ?
<Anarchos>
Usr312 but how could grub find your kernel then ??
<Anarchos>
you need the haiku_loader on its own partition (it wo'nt erase grub)
<augiedoggie>
haiku doesn't install a bootloader if there is already one present, you need to add haiku to your grub config manually
<scanty>
i have been chainloading haiku with grub for a long time already.
<poopnugget142>
I tried going to the internet and looking online for a internet speed test but it just says I have a speed of 0.0 Kbps is there any way for me to check my internet speed?
<Usr312>
bacause my grub is not on separated partiotion, its on /root partition. so when i install haiku, computer will default boot haiku and i will have to use linuxd iso to mount and resetup grub ? or not
<nephele_xmpp>
Usr312: Boot manager is only installed on demand, and the haiku bootsector is only written to the partition record, not the partition table, unless you explicitly ask for this.
<nephele_xmpp>
Haiku will not touch your partition table (unless you reformat it from haiku, which in this case would make no sense). So if Grub is set up to boot right now, it will continue to boot
<Usr312>
yes but i was think it will posible make haiku partition "active" to boot from it by default
<Usr312>
so, after i finish haiku installation and reboot i will be back to my old grub, and just add chainloader later to boot it

hello Begasus
<BrunoSpr>
I just found out I have a Global Options pannel in ScummVM, what means, the default (scummvm directory) is not created at first ScummVM install! So I just run into a fast install and use problem here!
<Begasus>
yeah, for now it should fix at least your problem, long term sollution would be to fix the savepath in scummvm's source
<BrunoSpr>
Begasus, I did not see/recognize the Global Options button! So that might be a User Interface use problem! Because the scummvm folder would not be created!
<BrunoSpr>
Begasus, yes thats it
<Begasus>
yeah, it isn't created, hence why you got the error
<Begasus>
ps, did you do some more checking on the HDR application?
<BrunoSpr>
Begasus, exactly, I just was to test if the old CD I found here was working with ScummVM, and fast tested it
<BrunoSpr>
Begasus, yes it should be ok and it is usable

I've gone through the Getting Started (https://www.haiku-os.org/development/getting-started) page on the Haiku website, created my own copy of Haiku, and I'm in the process of familiarizing myself with Gerrit, Haiku's project management, and Tarc.
<myriad>
Hello everyone, I'm looking to get started with contributing to Haiku and would love some guidance on good first issues. I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate in C++ and C, and I'm currently studying Operating Systems. I know a little bit of web development as well.
<myriad>
Should I start by going through the EasyTasks (https://dev.haiku-os.org/wiki/EasyTasks) section on the website, or are there other specific issues you'd recommend to help me get started?
<myriad>
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
<Habbie>
by 'created my own copy' you mean, you built it from source and are running your own build now?

https://0x0.st/8X1g.png <= Edit name shortcut changed to F2. Even if this is hated and rejected it has served its purpose of being a testbed for the unmodified function key shortcut feature.
<pol>
Funny, it still displays ALT + E for me not F2. And both work.
<Skipp_OSX>
F2 has always worked, and this is in development so that's why.
PetePete has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<Skipp_OSX>
I should say that F2 has always worked as an alternative shortcut to Alt+E, so this change promotes the Alt to main shortcut after having fixed the bugs preventing that from being possible.
<Skipp_OSX>
Alt as in alternative not the key, sorry, that was confusing. It promotes the alternative shortcut to being main.
<pol>
I switched my IRC client from Vison to Quassel, that let me configure bigger fonts.
<Anarchos>
Skipp_OSX what i hate is those localized shortcut : A and Q are not at same place on french kebyboard.(and in vim some shortcuts are not feasible cause '] ' is 'Alt Gr' + ')' for me so i can't do "CTRL+]" to jump)
<Skipp_OSX>
I could update those shortcuts to use the keys in that position regardless of what your keyboard has, but that might conflict.

Skipp_OSX yes that's why it's always a random guess...

Maybe Instead we should make sure shortcuts for common actions are swappable in some way. Make tracker react to a *semantic* delete item shortcut, rather than doing this itself
<nephele_xmpp>
that to me seems like the only sane way to do this anyhow, keyboard layouts can then define positions for semantic shortcuts on their own, and we can show this in the menu acordingly
