<erysdren> who here mentioned a USB WIFI dongle that works with haiku?
<OscarL> I've mentioned a RTL chip, but that was for a mini-PCIe card :-/ (RTL8188EE)
<erysdren> i keep having terrible luck getting haiku to run satisfactorily on anything
<erysdren> my current guinea pig PC won't seem to boot from CD or SD. it boots from USB, but i don't have an available USB to flash Haiku on
<erysdren> and obviously ventoy doesn't work
<coolcoder613> Back up USB with dd?
<erysdren> yeah i guess
<erysdren> its 128GB though
<erysdren> it'll take a minute to back it up
<erysdren> i'm just lazy :/
<coolcoder613> 128GB? maybe move ventoy along and put haiku on a partition at the start of the USB?
<coolcoder613> Or, if you can boot from UEFI...
* OscarL keeps a 4 GB one only for Haiku, and a 32 GB for "ventoy things".
<coolcoder613> maybe shrink the ventoy partition, put in the Haiku partition, and and put the Haiku bootloader in the ESP
<coolcoder613> does ventoy use GRUB?
zard has joined #haiku
<OscarL> It does. (I'm seeing a "grub" folder in the "vtoyefi" ESP partition)
<coolcoder613> So you need to boot into the grub command line and use chainloader ofr an SD card
<erysdren> there's a "boot in grub2 mode" option for each ISO when selecting it in Ventoy, but it doesn't seem to make a difference for Haiku
<coolcoder613> You can't boot from CD?
<coolcoder613> Hello zard
<zard> Hello coolcoder613 :)

<OscarL> hi andreasdr[m].
<erysdren> coolcoder613: i think the drive is broken or something, idk
<erysdren> i put the computer away. it's too much a piece of junk to use
<erysdren> it'll never work as well as i want it to
<coolcoder613> you don't have a spare cd/dvd drive?
<erysdren> i have a USB one
<erysdren> but i got too angry and gave up

<OscarL> erysdren: re WiFi adapters.... until you get a proper one... maybe you can try using USB-tethering? should be possible, at least with some Android phones.
zard has quit [Quit: leaving]
<FreeFull> Should work with any android phone that's not super old, I think

<scanty> hi guys, i'm trying to build glib-2.8.0 and i get the following error: configure: error: cannot guess build type; you must specify one

<scanty> i know there's a glib in the repo, but its' too old for what i'm trying to build.

<scanty> well, my hands are tied, i guess.
<augiedoggie> you can't use 2.78?
<scanty> nope :-(

<coolcoder613> from /system/data/automake-1.16/
<augiedoggie> fixing the configure script isn't going to get you a full build though, haikuporter applies several patches
